Silhouettes

Wyndham Rain I have been growing up on Klaus Schulze's music almost all of my adult life. In his younger years, "Silhouettes" would have more likely served as a sort of pastoral prelude to the more pounding pyrotechnics of his youthfully vigorous synthesizer. Here it is a prelude to nothing but itself, encurled in the ecstacy of a life facing death, sufficient in and of itself until the very end. Favorite track: Silhouettes.

nederlanditis Instantly appealing. Among his finest works and in its stripped down manner very much a return to very old virtues of what became "Berlin". I so much wish for a pairing with a true drummer next time ...

★ I want my collection sorted!!! ★ From the CD notes: "(...) I won't play live concerts anymore - at least not in public. But here I have a 'private' concert for you (...) I played for myself in a time of silence, reflection and reduction (...) recovery and (...) regathering strength (...) I am well now, and I am deeply grateful for that. I owe that to the most valuable blessing of all: music. A true and total wonder, which I am blessed to behold. I can only wish everyone of you the same. All the very best!". THANK YOU, KLAUS!!! Favorite track: Quae Simplex.
Paul Asbury Seaman

Paul Asbury Seaman A poignant coda from one of the pioneers and masters of the synthesizer/sequencer genre for almost five decades. Schulze continues to display his trademark (and amazing) ability to sound symphonic and intimate at the same time. There is a new level of contemplative awareness in these pieces and a level of contentment that is deeply moving. Favorite track: Chateaux Faits De Vent.

about

The four pieces on the album were created between summer and autumn 2017 following an extended period which was – due to health problems – very quiet and for this reason very meditative at times. Schulze: “The result automatically was a phase of reflection, of retrospection, of pure contemplation. In the wake of your 70th birthday you naturally find yourself looking back at the past – so the result is a reorientation, a renewed awareness of what is really important.” Schulze describes the music on Silhouettes as a “reduction to the essential things” and has consciously worked only very sparingly with solos and vocal elements. He explains: “No great distractions, nothing to force your attention in a certain direction, no major effects or gimmicks, no frills or dominant rhythms. It was important to me to paint the pictures in the depth of the space, the sonic fields of tension and atmosphere.”
